Originally featured in the August 2025 Corn Moon Issue  of our monthly newsletter, the Liminal.

A classic 1930s New Orleans rum drink, the Hurricane is bold, bright, and carries the weight of old adage “if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em.”

  • Prep Time: 5 min
  • Servings: 1 (generously splits into 2)

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz light rum
  • 2 oz dark rum
  • 1 oz passion fruit purée
  • 1 oz orange juice
  • 1 oz grenadine
  • ½ oz lime juice
  • Orange slice & cherry for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Pour the light rum, dark rum, passion fruit purée, orange juice, grenadine, and lime juice into a shaker.
  2. Add a good scoop of ice and shake hard until the tin turns frosty.
  3. Strain into a tall hurricane glass filled with ice.
  4. Garnish with an orange slice and cherry, then batten the hatches & hunker down.

Notes / Tips:

  • Freshly juiced and puréed fruit is always preferable to pre-packaged.
  • Perfect for entertaining or a solo indulgence with style.
